Job Description: The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position focused on hydrothermal mineral deposits. NBMG is a research and public service unit of the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and serves as the state geological survey. Managed as part of the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering in the College of Science at UNR, NBMG functions as an academic unit, and its principal scientists are tenure-track faculty members. The primary responsibilities of this position will involve conducting field-based research and teaching mainly in the field of Economic Geology, particularly hydrothermal mineral deposits, and to a lesser extent in structural geology. Research will involve both independent work and collaboration with other NBMG faculty and staff, as well as faculty in other geoscience departments at UNR and in the Nevada System of Higher Education. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of datasets and reports on Nevada’s mineral and energy resources, including resource assessments. The successful candidate will be asked to communicate effectively with the public and community leaders regarding the geology of Nevada and its mineral and energy resources. Research conducted by the successful candidate must be focused on mineral deposits in Nevada. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise graduate students and teach classes in the Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering at UNR.
Required Qualifications:Doctorate in geology or a related geoscience field by the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with industrial or academic experience in hydrothermal mineral deposits and with experience in field-based studies in a wide variety of geological settings, especially studies that required geologic mapping. Expertise in structural geology, geologic mapping, and active hydrothermal systems (geothermal activity) will be valued.

Job Description: The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant 2 with a line of progression into an Administrative Assistant 3 for Nevada Bureau of Mines & Geology. The position will be responsible for general office duties, which includes managing the front desk and customer service, ordering and maintenance of supplies, co-managing building maintenance, creating memos and flyers, managing shipping and receiving, and managing fleet vehicle logs, vehicle and equipment check out, and mileage billing.
Additional duties include administrative support to faculty and the Director by entering personnel transactions, reconciling purchasing cards, assisting with travel transactions and travel arrangements, arranging visits for prospective students and visitors, and organizing and scheduling meetings and events.
Required Qualifications: Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Schedule: The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
Compensation Grade: 25, Classified Compensation
