AEG Holiday Party and Fund Raiser—Thursday, December 13
TOPIC: “Overview of NBMG & Dynamic Geologic Landscapes”
Why is Nevada in Hot Water? Living on the Edge in a Rapidly Evolving Landscape
SPEAKER: Dr. James E. Faulds,
Director of the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, Nevada State Geologist
ABSTRACT: Dr. Faulds will provide a brief overview of the mission of the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, which serves as the state geological survey of Nevada. He’ll then discuss our dynamic geologic setting and rapidly evolving landscapes, including the origin of Lake Tahoe, our vast geothermal resources, and the likelihood that our region may eventually reside on a major plate tectonic boundary.
BIO: Dr. Faulds is the Director of the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, State Geologist of Nevada, and a professor at UNR. He has been analyzing major fault zones in Nevada and elsewhere for about 30 years. In the past 10+ years, much of his research has focused on how faults control geothermal energy resources.
